I watched this capture and eat 9/21/26 in my field in Paso Robles, The bird was not frightened by my barking dogs once it discovered they were behind a wire fence.

In reply to Louise Nicholson. The salmon enter the river in June and start arriving at the Whitehorse fish ladder in August. This year, the first salmon arrived in Whitehorse in August 5th. I took that picture on August 7th. As of August 24th, more than 560 chinook had passed through. It is one of the strongest runs in recent years, following lower numbers almost every year since 2020.

In reply to Tom Richardson. We’re usually there before the eggs hatch. Occasionally we’ve seen them nesting. As you probably know, they don’t nest every year. It was a unique treat indeed!
